The original Medeco Biaxial (pre-2003, identifiable by the angled key cuts and “Biaxial” stamped on the key bow) uses a sidebar mechanism with chisel-point pins. These systems can be master-keyed, but the tolerances are looser than current production. If your building dates to the 1990s and you’re adding cylinders, mixing Biaxial with newer Medeco 32 series (the current angled-cut platform) will create keying conflicts - the 32 series sidebar geometry differs by approximately .030 inch, enough that keys cut for one won’t reliably operate the other. The Medeco X4 (standard pin-tumbler, no sidebar, recognizable by the straight key blade) accepts master keying but with a simpler hierarchy - typically three levels versus the six levels possible in 32 series.
